Gleecap: Glee 4x11 - 'Sadie Hawkins' Recap

Follow TroutyMouthBlog on Twitter

Since there was a hiatus, you probably forgot that Glee was even on anymore, which is silly because we basically couldn't imagine what we'd do with our lives if it wasn't... no but seriously, that's a legitimate concern... anyway, if you forgot to set a Google Alert or an outlook appointment to remind yourself that Glee returned from hiatus last week with 4x11 "Sadie Hawkins" then a) kill yourself and b) as if... and c) here's what you missed:

Sam thinks that the Warblers cheated at Sectionals. Blaine says he has to prove it. So he's determined to do so. Queue an impersonation of a superhero probably...

In the meantime, Sam's froggy lips are super chapped. So he borrows chapstick from Blaine. Blaine basically feels an instant connection through the chapstick that was just touching Sam's trouty-Aerosmith lips, so now he's in love with Sam. #BLAM!

Then we go to a Student Council meeting. Apparently Glee Club also makes up the Student Council board. Tina proposes a Sadie Hawkins dance. Sugar and Sam agree. Girl Power!

Since there's a Sadie Hawkins in action, the obvious lesson for the Glee Club is 'Ladies Choice', so the girls have to sing to the boys before they ask them to the dance.

Tina goes first, since she was the one who wanted the dance in the first place. And she sings I Don't Know How to Love Him to... Blaine. You heard. #BlinaAnderchang2013

Unfortunately Blaine tells her no. (Insert sad face emoji here).

Kitty has her eye on Jake, so Brittany tells Marley, "Girrrrrrl, this can't happen, find yo' power!" (well, not in those exact words). So after a magical turn, she and Marley sing Tell Him. It was excellent. Then Marley asks Jake to the dance and Brittany asks Sam.

Kitty, who's clearly not thrilled about the Sadie Hawkins situation, tells Jake to dump Marley... and basically throws herself at him, offering to satisfy his needs... Don't be a slore, Kitty.

Tina talks to Blaine. She apologizes for being insensitive - she knows he's had issues with Sadie Hawkins in the past. But she also requests one, because she was humiliated. Poor Tina.

Then Blaine reveals that the real reason he can't go to the dance with her is because he has a crush on Sam. Poor Tina.

Then Blina agrees that they go to the dance as BFF's and enjoy the "most fun night ever"! Poor Tina.

Jake asks Puck for advice on Marley and Kitty. Puck tells little Puck to stay away from Kitty. What cute bros.

Unfortunately, Puck doesn't take his own advice and he goes to Kitty to tell her to stay away from Jake. So she acknowledges it by asking Puck to go. He agrees as long as she pays for everything. Classic Puckerman. (We know he doesn't go to Jared).

Glee Club, as always, is responsible for the music at the dance, so... queue No Scrubs... which doesn't really fit into the storyline... but it's a fun, well done song, nonetheless. I dug it. Plus-- classic independent black woman, Artie Abrahms takes some of the lead. LOVE that.

Coach Beiste tells the single ladies (hey Lauren Zizes, miss ya girrrrrl!) to get out there and get what's theirs. So, they do. Lauren to Joe, Sugar to Artie. I celebrated by throwing both fists into the air, in a very Zizes-manner.

Meanwhile, in NYC, Kurt tries to get involved at NYADA. So, he signs up for Adam's Apples, even though Rachel tells him it's basically social suicide. Rachel, since when do you care what people think?!

He meets a new British upperclassman. Aye Karumba! His name... it's Adam.

Adam tries to convince Kurt to join. He and the Apples sing a (apparently "ripped-off"... even though it's not illegal. #sigh #enoughdrama) version of Johnathan Coulton's Baby Got Back, which in my opinion was awesome.

Rachel is trying to leave McKinley in the past, tells Kurt "this isn't like high school" and advises him to ask Adam out, because "things move fast in the city". Hey, New Rachel -- you're trying to grow up too fast. ENJOY NEW YORK & COLLEGE YA CRAZY!

Kurt ends up asking Adam out and they exchange numbers. (Insert a w00t w00t here).

Back at McKinley, Tina and Blaine are dancing and my one true pair new favorites almost share a kiss. BUT Sam interrupts. DAMN YOU SAM! DAMN YOU!

Sam interrupts because he's got a break in the "Dalton Cheated" scandal.

The girls then sing a version of Locked Out of Heaven, which was sexual. Puck and Kitty must have felt the sexualness, because the two go out to her car to have at each other. Is it weird that I totally ship Pitty? (I know, I'm a ship whore. Leave me alone.)

Meanwhile, Sam and Blaine go get Finn because they find out that Dalton has been using steroids... and according to the rule book, all performance enhancing drugs (including Four Loko, Count Boozey von Drunk-a-Ton) are illegal in the show choir world. So they get Trenton Warbler to admit to the 'roid scandal. Queue BLAM celebration, because New Directions will get the spot! (Weren't they disqualified? Wouldn't the spot go to the other showchoir that sang She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain get the spot? Whatever...)

And over in NYC, Rachel is cleaning up dinner that she was supposed to have with Brody, but he's 45 minutes late, which makes for a very angry Rachel Berry. Even though it's not his fault because the train was late, she doesn't give him any leeway. Whatever... I think she's getting crazier.

Alas, Brody disagrees with me, and thinks that Rachel is right. So he asks her to dance. Weirdly enough, they're dancing to Ryder's version of I Only Have Eyes For YOu which he's singing at the dance, while Little Puckerman and Marley love each other, OTP Blina Anderchang are working it, Bram is dancing, and some cheerleader with a neckbrace is giving Ryder the eye (Where'd she come from? She's been eyeing him all episode). #whoacrossovers

SO, Brody vows to never be late again. He's going to get an apartment in the city! YAY!

WAIT THOUGH! Rachel says "screw that!" (not really), "Why don't you just move in here?" (really), and... the episode ends. DUN DUN DUN!

...And that's what you missed on Glee!

Songs 'Glee' Should Cover - Requests Vol. 1

Follow TroutyMouthBlog on Twitter

So, we're starting a new segment on the blog for Glee song requests. There are just so many songs out there, and we know Glee can't do them all. So we thought we'd throw out five ideas each month, give the scenarios they fall in. And let you use your imaginations.

This month's theme -- getting everyone to New York! For the first installment of "Songs Glee Should Cover", here are our five choices:

SONG: "Back for Good" - Take That (Boyz II Men rendition)

WHO SINGS IT: Finn & Rachel, Brittany and Santana, Kurt and Blaine

SCENARIO: All of the graduates return for Will & Emma's wedding. At the reception, intro starts & there's a montage of each couple catching one another's eyes. Finn sees Rachel dancing with Brody. Santana sees Brittany dancing with Sam. Kurt sees Blaine hanging out at a different table by himself.

LYRICS SUNG:
Finn: I guess now it's time for me to give up, I feel it's time / Got a picture of you beside me / Got your lipstick mark still on your coffee cup, oh yeah.
Rachel: Got a fist of pure emotion / Got a head of shattered dreams / Gotta leave it, gotta leave it all behind now
Group: Whatever I said, whatever I did / I didn't mean it / I just want you back for good / Want you back, want you back / I want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong / Just tell me the song and I'll sing it / You'll be right and understood / Want you back, want you back / I want you back for good
Brittany: Unaware but underlined / I figured out this story, it wasn't good / But in the corner of my mind I celebrated glory / But that was not to be
Santana: In the twist of separation / You excelled at being free / Can't you find a little room inside for me
Group: Whatever I said, whatever I did / I didn't mean it / I just want you back for good / Want you back, want you back / I want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong / Just tell me the song and I'll sing it / You'll be right and understood / Want you back, want you back / I want you back for good
Kurt: And we'll be together, this time is forever / We'll be fighting and forever we will be
Blaine: So complete in our love / We will never be uncovered again.
Group: Whatever I said, whatever I did / I didn't mean it / I just want you back for good / Want you back, want you back / I want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong / Just tell me the song and I'll sing it / You'll be right and understood / Want you back, want you back / I want you back for good

SONG: "The Best" - Tina Turner

WHO SINGS IT: Santana about Brittany

SCENARIO: Santana struggles with the possibility to move to New York. She comes home to visit McKinley. She and Britt (though they aren't together again, yet), have a conversation about how Santana can succeed in anything she does, and how Brittany still believes in Santana. Santana smiles at Brittany, says "Thanks, Britt, you really are the best". Starts to realize that Santana's accomplished much of what she's accomplished so far because of the support she's had from Brittany.

LYRICS SUNG:
I call you when I need you, my heart's on fire
You come to me, come to me wild and wired
When you come to me
Give me everything I need
Give me a lifetime of promises and a world of dreams
Speak a language of love like you know what it means
And it can't be wrong
Take my heart and make it strong baby

You're simply the best, better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met
I'm stuck on your heart, and hang on every word you say
Tear us apart, baby I would rather be dead

Each time you leave me I start losing control
You're walking away with my heart and my soul
I can feel you even when I'm alone
Oh baby, don't let go

You're simply the best, better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met
I'm stuck on your heart, and hang on every word you say
Tear us apart, baby I would rather be dead

SONG: "I Am Woman" - Helen Reddy

WHO SINGS IT: Tina

SCENARIO: Tina is struggling with the thought of persuing a broadway career as an Asian-American. Everyone she talks to tells her that she won't land any roles because of her ethnicity. Artie, who decides he wants to go to New York to direct off-Broadway plays, tells her that he'd cast her. She thanks him, but still isn't confident. Artie tells her "Remember? You are a powerful Asian-American woman, and your growing feminism will cut anyone who tells you "No" in half like a righteous blade of equality!" She laughs and says, "you're right. We've always been told no. We've had slushies thrown in our faces and we've still kept fighting. If I want to do it, I just can't take no as an answer."

LYRICS SUNG:
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

Oh, yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

SONG: "Forever Young" - Alphaville

WHO SINGS IT: All graduating seniors (Brittany, Artie, Tina, Sam, Blaine)

SCENARIO: It's senior prom. Brittany, Tina, Blaine, Sam and Artie are all on stage singing. Sugar is dancing in the crowd. Blaine gives speech as class president, dedicating this song to the class of 2013. They sing, Sugar cries and says she doesn't ever want to leave McKinley.

LYRICS SUNG:
Brittany: Let's dance in style, lets dance for a while / Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies / Hoping for the best but expecting the worst / Are you going to drop the bomb or not?
Artie: Let us die young or let us live forever / We don't have the power but we never say never / Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip / The music's for the sad men
Blaine: Can you imagine when this race is won / Turn our golden faces into the sun / Praising our leaders we're getting in tune / The music's played by the madman
ALL (Tina leads): Forever young, I want to be forever young / Do you really want to live forever, forever forever / Forever young, I want to be forever young / Do you really want to live forever / Forever young
ALL (Sam leads): Forever young, I want to be forever young / Do you really want to live forever, forever forever / Forever young, I want to be forever young / Do you really want to live forever / Forever young

SONG: "Dancing in the Streets" - Martha and the Vandellas

WHO SINGS IT: Brittany and Mike, with the New Directions and old graduates as back-ups

SCENARIO: New Directions go to New York for Nationals. All the old graduates show up for support. They all decide to go out together (similar to Season 2 finale). Rachel and Kurt talk about how much fun they are having in New York, and how they miss everyone. Mike breaks the news that he is transferring to Juliard for dance, because he's not sure if he's getting what he wants from his school in Chicago. Brittany says "it doesn't matter where you dance, as long as you're dancing." Does a magical turn, set changes to New York city street. They take the lead on the song, but all the other cast members dance with them.

LYRICS SUNG:
Brittany: They're dancin' in Chicago / Down in New Orleans / Up in New York City
Mike: All we need is music, sweet music / There'll be music everywhere / There'll be swingin', swayin' and records playin' / And dancin' in the streets
Brittany: Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear / Just as long as you are there / So come on, every guy grab a girl / Everywhere around the world
Both: There'll be dancin' / They're dancin' in the street
Brittany: Way down in L.A., every day / Dancing in the Streets
Mike: Let's form a big strong line / Get in Time / Dancing in the Streets
Brittany: Across the ocean blue / me and you / Dancing in the Streets

Gleecap: Glee 4x10 - 'Glee Actually' Recap

Follow TroutyMouthBlog on Twitter

In case you weren't in the gleeful spirit during the holidays, much like the Grinch, Scrooge, or George Bailey pre-dream sequence, then here's what you missed on a complex, yet overall quite joyous holiday special, Glee 4x10- "Glee Actually":

Storyline #1: Artie has a George Bailey-esq dream in which he sings Feliz Navidad.

The plot of the dream: Glee Club doesn't exist. It shows Rory (Damian McGinty) as his "ghost of Christmas present", Artie walking, Terri married to an alcoholic Will, Finn & Puck still football jocks, but Rachel graduated and never left Lima, Quinn died, and I guess Santana and Mercedes never existed... Just a whole bunch of nonsense, essentially. Either way, it's always fun seeing Kevin McHale put on his best dance moves.

Storyline #2: In New York, Burt Hummel surprises Rachel & Kurt with a visit and a Christmas tree for their apartment. The three spend the evening decorating, but then Rachel leaves for a cruise with her two gay dads. She is Jewish, don't forget.

Burt surprises Kurt, yet again, with another Christmas present: He flew Blaine to NYC because I guess Blaine doesn't have a family of his own that he should be spending Christmas with. So they basically have to sing a duet, which results in a semi-awkward rendition of White Christmas.

Oh yeah, Burt has cancer, too. That guy can't catch a break.

Storyline #3: Sam and Brittany both believe in the Mayan apocalypse. So, Britt cashes in her life savings to buy all of her friends extravagant gifts. Like, for instance, a new car for Tina. Basically, I should have befriended Brittany before doomsday. #mybad.

Sam serenades Brittany with Jingle Bell Rock. It was mediocre at best. Then he proposes. They get married. What?!

Beiste then reveals to them later, after they survive the apocalypse, that she was not a legal officiator, so their wedding wasn't real. Darn.

Storyline #4: Puck invites Jake to come back to LA with him. He does. They ride a motorcycle with a sidecar. I didn't know they still make those.

Then the duo sings Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah on the Paramount lot. Good thing that's where Glee films. That would have been one expensive location to rent out ;)

When Jake learns that Puck is living in a crappy apartment - not the million dollar mansion that one of his pool-cleaning clients was living in - they decide to go back to Lima. Because it's the most cost-efficient solution?

They decide to have Christmas dinner together. Jake, his mom (played by Aisha Taylor), Puck and his mom. Even though Puck's mom and Jake's mom don't like each other.

Unexpected plot twist: THEY DO LIKE EACH OTHER! After Puck says that their dad did one thing right - made that family - they cheers, and the lovely ladies find they have a lot in common. Mainly, the boys' dad.

Storyline #5: Marley's mom addresses the fact that Marley has an eating disorder, so she's sending her to a therapist. Unfortunately, that means no Christmas presents, because they can't afford it. So Marley sings Silent Night to her mom, instead.

Sue draws Marley's mom's name in the faculty Christmas exchange. She overhears that Marley isn't getting a Christmas.

Sue's heart grows three sizes, she pawns off her pine tree to a luxury toothpick company, and on Christmas morning, Marley and her mother wake up to a lot of presents and $800 cash, complements of one Sue Sylvester.

Marley's mom brings Sue into the auditorium for her "thank you" gift, which is Marley & New Directions singing Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

...And that's what you missed on Glee!
